Overview

Start from the Goundafi gardens located on the west bank of the medina to get introduced to the rich history of the city, which was once an important trade Centre in northwest of Africa. Walk alongside the water canals and fountains to the Koutoubia Mosque, named after the librarians who used to sell books and scripts of different disciplines. Look at the archeological site of a former mosque founded around the 11th century by the Almoravids Berber dynasty, founders of Marrakech. Next move on to look the current Koutoubia Mosque constructed in the 12th century by the powerful succeeding dynasty of the Almohads. Then walk to Jemaa El Fna esplanade, an iconic place, known for its various entertainments of acrobats, public scribes, fortune tellers, snake charmers …The square gets livelier during night times. Have fun around and dive in the colorful souks, the heart of the medina. While wandering through the souks, you will be tempted by the vivid colors, the hectic noises, the strong scents of herbs and oils. Stop every now and then to experiment with the displayed products, get education about the making process of various craft and delve into bartering experience. Around the end of the tour, take a break on the rooftop of a café to appreciate the panoramic view of the mysterious medina.
