On horse pace, embark on a “caleche” with a guiding companion to explore a great section of the ramparts, massive walls founded around the twelfth century to protect the city from potential invaders. Ride along and stop every now and then to explore some of the monumental gates like Bab Laksiba, Bab Agnaou and Bab Doukala allowing people to access the medina and imposing tax on inflowing trade. Continue the ride to the lush “Hivernage district”, housing lavish art Deco villas still inhabited by few French residents. Ride within large streets abutted by pretty plants to reach Gueliz, the new town established during the Protectorate period and where an important French community was living. Take a walk on Med V Avenue to view the art Deco Architecture of some of the buildings and stop to explore some of the iconic places standing for the glorious era of the 20th century. Get a drink and enjoy the Gueliz atmosphere before you make your way back to the hotel.
